Chuck E. Cheese is Not for Whimps

Many of you may know I bring Joshua to work with me. Every day I go to work praying that somehow I will be able to manage taking care of him and a five-year old girl with cerebral palsy at the same time. Somehow it usually works out. Yesterday, her family decided to throw a wrench in my groove and go for an outing to Chuck E. Cheese. Just try to picture the scenario: me pushing a wheelchair with my left hand and a stroller with my right... 6-month old baby screaming in the stroller because he hasn't had his afternoon nap... girl doing everything she possibly can to get out of the wheelchair... pushing them both into the bathroom so I can change their diapers... girl finally getting out of wheelchair and crawling up on the SkiBall game... holding Joshua with one arm (he got fussy enough and won) and climbing up the SkiBall lane to get the little girl... I was COMPLETELY worn out after 3 hours of this. Luckily, Joshua was content for most of the trip and every once in a while the girl's family would help me out... but for the most part I was dying to leave.

After we arrived home I quickly put Joshua down for an overdue afternoon nap and then gave the girl a bath, fully expecting her to collapse into deep slumber after such a boisterous outing. Much to my horror, she didn't fall asleep at ALL (I left at 9:00 pm and she was still awake) and Joshua only slept for 30 minutes. It seems the stimulation of Chuck E. Cheese had left them both completely wired and me completely haggard. One thing is for sure: you gotta be tough to play at Chuck E. Cheese.

oh...my...goodness! I think I just had a stress-induced heart attack reading that. Dang Katie! I'm glad you and Joshua survived. I took Kaylee to the library with Ethan once and she proceeded to pull every book off the shelf, while running away. And then threw a tantrum when I tried to leave. Ethan wasn't even crying and I was ready to die. Hang in there!

Doesn't an experience like this make you SO excited to have another kid? :) Kudos to you for not sitting on the floor at Chuck E. Cheese's and throwing a monster tantrum--that's what I would have done.
